Ich möchte jetzt etwas essen.
Anna möchte Medizin studieren.
Ich möchte nicht zu dir gehen.
wollen ist stärker als möchten. wollen verwendet man wenn man etwas ganz sicher verlangt/will.
möchten ist nicht so stark wie wollen und es klingt höflicher als wollen

wollen wird bei starken Wünschen verwendet.
Und möchten bei schwachen Wünschen.

They are synonyms for "to want". However, some people claim that "möchten" is more polite as there is a slight urge inside of "wollen".
That's why some people answer to "Ich will das (=I want that)" with " Es heißt 'ich möchte' (= you mean 'I want')"
but it's mostly jokingly said. Never have I ever heard someone say it in a serious way.
So basically, they mean the same thing but"wollen" is stronger in its meaning and urgency.

Meine Mutter hat immer gesagt: "Kinder, die was wollen, kriegen was auf die Bollen."
Wollen ist zwar stärker als möchten, aber auch eher unhöflich.
