A belt is an item often used to hold up trousers which are too big for the wearer. It goes through the loops in the trousers and fastens with a buckle at the front.
e.g. “My trousers are too large. I need a belt.”
A strap can be found on a bag so that someone can wear it on their shoulder. It can also be found on shoes using Velcro as an alternative to laces.
e.g. “I don’t know how to tie my laces, so I prefer to buy shoes with a strap.”
A girdle is a belt or a cord, typically worn by women around their waist. It can also be similar to a corset, worn by women and used to make the waist appear smaller.
e.g. “The woman looks very slim; I think she’s wearing a girdle under her dress.”
A sash is a piece of material typically worn in a diagonal direction across the body, starting from the shoulders and ending at the hip. They may be used for celebrations, such as birthdays.
e.g. “On my birthday, my friends made me wear a sash.”
Hope this helps :)
