I suppose bread is mainly considered a western food in China, though we still have its counterpart, 馒头.
It‘s also made of flour but is steamed, not baked. In many northern provinces it is the main food of Chinese households as well as rice.

But I guess 馒头 is very important to us. Some people eat 馒头 for breakfast.
