@eszterfang Ok, it's literature so the author has the freedom to create new words or expressions. For me this is just an other way to say szelíden (gently, meekly, kindly). There was no anger at all in his eyes after Jean-Philippe took his cigarette. His gaze was soft like oil.
Good luck with this novel, I checked it and it's not an easy text! But the purpose of literature is to make your brain work. 🙂👍

@eszterfang I never heard this one. "Olajos" means oily, "tekintet" means gaze or look. But this combination just doesn't make much sense to me. 🙃
Maybe you can get more from the context.

@benedekl A group of visibly drugged guys barged into the room, ....... A third boy lit up in the kitchen and asked something about Robert, whether he had been here today. He spoke poor English and for the life of him couldn't understand that smoking wasn't allowed here, so he looked surprised at Jean-Philippe when he finally took the cigarette out of his mouth and extinguished it in the sink. The boy looked gently, with an oily gaze, and mentioned this Robert again, then he ate a frightening amount of ravioli and turned on the TV.
@benedekl Egy csapat láthatóan bedrogozott srác nyomult be a szobába, .......
