La frase "Could you please clarify this doubt about the verb to try" se refiere a pedir a alguien que explique o aclare una duda sobre el verbo "intentar" en inglés. En este caso, se está preguntando si el verbo "try" solo se puede usar en situaciones donde se intentó hacer algo pero al final se falló en el intento.
Ejemplos:
- I tried to fix my computer, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong. (Intenté arreglar mi computadora, pero no pude descubrir qué estaba mal).
- She tried to learn how to play the guitar, but she gave up after a few lessons. (Ella intentó aprender a tocar la guitarra, pero se rindió después de unas cuantas lecciones).
En resumen, la frase en cuestión está pidiendo aclaración sobre si el verbo "try" se limita a situaciones donde se intenta algo pero no se logra.

No, that’s not right.
When you use – to try – you are simply talking about the existence of an attempt. The attempt might fail or succeed, it doesn’t matter. Like this –
We discussed what we should do, and then we tried calling the police. They came straightaway and helped us.
So, you can see, complete success.
Or, you can have several failures, ending in success –
First we tried the drill, then the hammer. We even tried the crowbar. But it was only when we tried the cutting saw that we got results.
Then, of course, you have the future tense and the present and progressive tenses —
We will try again in the morning. – So, we don’t know what the outcome is.
We have been trying to login to the server – the attempt is still ongoing
We were just trying to call you – the call didn’t work, but the person has appeared anyway.
