Question about English (US)

What is the difference between get scared of and get scared by ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

Are there any situations where “scared by” should be used instead of “scared of”.
For example, is it more natural say “Did you get scared by the dog?” than “Did you get scared of the dog?”?
For some reason, “by” sounds better to me in this case. Are they interchangeable?
