Ejemplo: "His false alibi did not hold up under investigation."
Ejemplo: "She bought a fake designer handbag from the street vendor."

"Fake" tends to have a negative connotation and imply deception that may be harmful or malicious. "False" may sometimes do the same, but it does so much less frequently. It often just means "incorrect" or "untrue." When there is deception, it doesn't tend to be malicious. "Fake" also tends to have a slightly childish sound to it because in most situations there are more advanced words to use, like "counterfeit," "(poor) imitation," or even "knock-off."
The man was arrested for making fake ID cards.
She bought a fake Gucci jacket for $3,000.
That supposed news story was proven false by diligent observers.
