@TimberHearth Yes, they're interchangeable, but phrasing it that way in this sentence wouldn't really work because that would force "along" to be separated from "brought" by all of the phrases describing the wife:
"He brought his wife, a vivacious blonde some 20 years his junior, along."
(There are times when this kind of separation can be done deliberately to add emphasis or set up a joke, but here it's just awkward.)
