As noted earlier, it is similar to asking for a simple favor, but even more so. For example, friends ask you to drive them home, which is both out of your way and far away, as opposed to just driving them home when they live in the same neighborhood as you. Or, a bum asking you individually for $15, for a full combo meal, as opposed to whatever small spare change multiple people might give him throughout the day. It’s a favor, but a much larger one.
