@LeeKevin
"Make a guess" and "take a guess" are the same, but "what's your best guess?" Is a person asking someone else to tell them what their most accurate guess is about something.

@LeeKevin My own take on this (not supported by anything) is that âtake a guessâ is a way of arriving at a response (i.e., by guessing) and âmake a guessâ is to answer with a guess.
So, if someone asks me to answer a question I donât know, Iâd say, âWell, let me take a guessâ (Iâm getting at an answer by guessing, rather than knowing the answer). If I observe someone randomly checking the choices on a multiple-choice test, Iâd say he was âmaking guessesâ because he is answering by (apparently) guessing. Thatâs why âtake a guessâ sounds like askingâitâs sort of an invitation to use guessing to arrive at your answerâand âmake a guessâ sounds a bit more like âtellingââyouâre sort of telling the person to answer by way of guessing.

Take a guess. Make a guess. What's your best guess?
You can also say "Can you guess?" or "Go on, guess!"
They all mean exactly the same thing. They're all used commonly except "make a guess". That is said sometimes, but it's not common.
