Question about Arabic
Can anybody explain me why does "لدي" mean "I have"? I know that in Arabic there is no verb "to have" but you use prepositional expression عندي which is a combination عند+ي and I would like to know how do you form this one - "لدي". Thanks in advance for all your answers and please if possible write me with Arabic letters and tashkeel :)

لدي orعندي it's the same thing you can use for example : لدي سؤال or you can use عندي سؤال and لدي is a preposition not verb

@nat13alia لدى و عندare synonyms, but I think عند is more used in colloquial speech nowadays

the real difference between عند و لدى is
عند : something could be with right now or maybe not
at home, office....etc
لدى used when something you have it and it's with you not in office or house. ...etc
like: لدي تفاحة i have an apple so that mean it's with you right now.
BUT in nowadays there is no difference I've just told you what I've read in dictionary.

it's لدى Lada ..like لدى المنزل أربعة نوافذ the house has 4 windows
المنزل لديه أربعة نوافذ the same meaning but we but the ه letter after the noun
so we need to put a partical that show us we still talk about (the house) .
it's all about الضمائر ... I can say
لديه he/it has
لدي I have
لديها she HAS
لديهم they have
لدينا we have
لديهما the two of them have
لديهن those women have

you can say that (لدي )
is the direct translation of (I have) which indicates the thing you own, but (عندي ) also generally means ( I have) but it doesn't mean it literally!
I can say that (عندي ) means something exists really next to me which could be mine!

"لدي" that's mean I have in Arabic language
"عندي" that's mean I have in dialect Saudi

Originally, it is أنا لدي which of course means I have. It becomes لدي because the subject is already known who is obviously the speaker. Because of this reason أنا is deleted.
