Great question... when it's about housing/geographical location of home they're interchangeable. Leben has a far wider scope, though, as it means the fact that one/something is alive as such.

@tinkster so, we can say, for example, "Ich wohne in Russland" and "Ich lebe in Russland" and both variants are, like, equal?

Back on topic: please note that the reverse is not necessarily true: "Der Moschusochse lebt am Polarkreis" ("wohnen" doesn't work here, that's reserved for humans ;}).
