Question about English (US)
Hello, I hope you're doing well. I have this homework:
Rewrite the sentences using hypothetical conditionals.
1. The restaurant is very expensive, so we don't eat there.
2. I don't have Jodie's number, so I can't call her.
3. I don't practice every day, so I'm not very good at the guitar.
4. I spend so much time answering my e-mail that I don't finish my other work.
5. I'm very late, so I'm walking quickly.
I answered them in this way, and the system showed that everything is wrong. :'c
1. If the restaurant wasn't so expensive, we would eat there.
2. If I had Jodie's number, I would call her.
3. If I practiced every day, I would be better at the guitar.
4. If I didn't spend so much time answering my email, I would finish my other work.
5. If I wasn't so late, I wouldn't be walking quickly.
I just got a clue: "To form the hypothetical conditional, use IF + PAST SIMPLE and WOULD + INFINITIVE".
Help me, please.

¡Hola! Claro, puedo ayudarte con tu tarea de inglés. En este caso, estás tratando de reescribir las oraciones utilizando condicionales hipotéticos. La estructura que estás utilizando es correcta, pero hay algunos errores en las oraciones que has creado.
Aquí te dejo las correcciones:
1. Si el restaurante no fuera tan caro, comeríamos allí.
2. Si tuviera el número de Jodie, la llamaría.
3. Si practicara todos los días, sería mejor en la guitarra.
4. Si no pasara tanto tiempo respondiendo mis correos electrónicos, terminaría mi otro trabajo.
5. Si no estuviera tan tarde, no estaría caminando rápido.
Espero que estas correcciones te ayuden a entender mejor cómo formar condicionales hipotéticos en inglés. ¡Buena suerte con tu tarea! Si tienes más preguntas, no dudes en preguntar.

Your sentences seem correct, but according to your clue, you aren't really using an infinitive, which would be in the format "to [verb]"
However, the clue does not make sense because WOULD + INFINITIVE isn't grammatically correct. I'm uncertain but maybe the clue is suggesting a different structure using an infinitive, where
Were + subject + infinitive, would/could + verb stem.
example:
2. Were I to have Jodie's number, I would call her.
This is a relatively uncommon structure so I could also offer some other possibilities.

I also found this website which explains the various forms of hypothetical conditionals and it mentions 3 forms:
"If + past tense verb, would or could + verb stem"
"If + subject + were, would or could + verb stem."
"Were + subject + infinitive, would or could + verb stem"
If none of these seem to make sense, the website also provides many more structures and examples. Here is the link:

All of them wrong? Well, I'd argue that it might be British English, because I've seen them relate to the base form (infinitive without 'to') as infinitive before, in that case, I'd use "were" instead of "was" in all of the sentences, because that's the most correct form. It's not the most commonly used, but it's the most grammatically correct, hence:
"If the restaurant weren't so expensive, we'd eat there," and so on.
By the way, have you tried using contracted forms? If the system only accepts one kind of answer, that could be the issue. Hope you get it all right. Good luck with it.
