The grammar is technically correct, and I can easily understand what you mean, but the style is not very natural. We can make it sound much better.
Anyone seeking to teach vocal skills should show a high degree of proficiency in vocal control, as a good example to their students.
Or
It sets a good example to students if teachers of vocal skills already possess a high degree of proficiency themselves.
It is too confusing to say on one hand that the teachers should be proficient, and then say – to a certain degree. Either they are proficient or they are not. Always try to cut down on language which introduces any scope for confusion.

The grammar in the beginning is a little off. It should either be "Vocal trainers" (plural) or "A vocal trainer" If you're talking about/to one person.
