Question about French (France)
When you read translated foreign books, do you tend to choose translators from your own country or from other countries? For example, if you were to read China's *Tao Te Ching*, would you prefer a version translated by someone from your own country or by a Chinese translator?

我个人更倾向于选择来自其他国家的翻译者。因为我认为,如果是中国的《道德经》,由中国翻译者翻译的版本更能保留原著的文化内涵和语言特色。这样我可以更好地理解和感受到原著的魅力。当然,有时候也会选择本国翻译者的版本,因为他们可能会根据本国读者的习惯和文化背景进行适当的调整,使得阅读更加顺畅。不过总的来说,我更喜欢选择来自原著国家的翻译版本。

Personally, I wouldn't care about the nationality of the translator as long as they are qualified for the translations they are in charge of. It's not the nationality that matters but rather the mother tongue and the experience. French, Canadian, Belgian, Swiss, etc. whatever as long as they translate from Chinese to French, their mother tongue. I don't see how a French person would perform better than a Canadian one for the translation of a Chinese author, as long as both translators have experience translating Chinese authors or even that author in particular. Often but not always, what happens is that an author has an official translator for every language.
For example, novels from Yoko Ogawa are always translated by Rose-Marie Makino-Fayolle, who is her official translator in French. She knows Ogawa's history (meaning that she can understand potential parallels or references between her books) and she is familiar with Ogawa's style, she is therefor qualified by experience for the translations of this author, which is what matters most.
Similarly, Gwennaël Gaffric translated 刘慈欣's 三体 series. I don't know if that translator worked alone on all of the books and short stories for that author, but surely he knows the author well.
